Laura Cunningham

Laura brings 35 years of marketing, communications, community relations and non-profit experience to Charlotte Pelton & Associates, Inc.

Laura spent 22 years at The Palm Beach Post (1987-2009), 10 years as marketing director.  Her breadth of experience there included sales, strategic planning, research, creative supervision, media buying, Internet research, events, and non-profit board service and leadership.  The “Ask a Local” consumer ad campaign, created and produced under Laura’s direction, effectively re-established The Post as Palm Beach County’s newspaper when the company was under attack from a newspaper competitor.

In her last two years at The Post, Laura added management of the community relations team to her marketing responsibilities, directing The Post’s sponsorship of 170+ events yearly held by more than 130 local non-profit organizations and municipalities.  She headed the most successful Season to Share holiday campaign ever, with over $800,000 in contributions.  She and her team were also responsible for the Pathfinders scholarship program, with nearly 500 students nominated by area high schools and more than $135,000 in scholarships awarded.  Laura remains on the Pathfinder board.

Laura’s commitment to Palm Beach County is demonstrated in her community service.  She is the immediate past president of the Leadership Palm Beach County Board of Governors, has served as Leadership's interim executive director and is a member of the Class of 1995.  She is a past president of the Literacy Coalition and board member since 2002, plus has served on the Read Together Palm Beach organizing committee since its inception in 2001.  Other community involvement includes Executive Women of the Palm Beaches (board member, member), Lighthouse Center for the Arts and Norton Museum of Art (marketing committees) and Healthy Mothers Healthy Babies Coalition of Palm Beach County (board member).  She has served as a trustee of the Jupiter Chamber of Commerce.

Before Laura moved to Palm Beach County in 1987, she served as marketing and communications manager for the three departments of government run by Lt. Governor John Mutz of Indiana. She created, then orchestrated, the state’s most successful tourism campaign, “Wander Indiana.”  She also helped market to Isuzu/Subaru of Japan to sell them on locating a manufacturing plant in Indiana.
